- REPORT ON THE BENT (2300 E. Baristo Rd., P.S. @ the P.S. Cultural Center)

03-18 and 03-19; “The Green Room”

This is a staged reading of a new play by Jason Reale, known to many of us as a gifted director and scenic designer. Jason is also directing his play about a disgraced Republican senator, a cynical leftist journalist, and a canceled drag queen who are trapped in the stark backstage holding space of a late night talk show. As the Bent websitedescribes it: “The lights never dim, the cameras never roll, and the door never opens…The Green Room reimagines Sartre’s existential classic for our media-saturated age. There is no host. No audience. And…no exit.”

- (contact info: www.thebent.org.)

- REPORT ON CVREP (68510 E. Palm Cyn., Dr., C. C. 92234)

Extended for a fourth week – now continuing through 3-22; “Guys and Dolls”

This classic musical by Frank Loesser ran for 1,200 performances when it opened on Broadway in 1950. Considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy, the show has won a bevy of awards, including Tony Awards, Drama Desks and Oliviers. But it will be an entirely new experience at CVRep as you enter the den of thieves and Prohibition. Gambling will be what you do when you enter Damon Runyon’s mythical New York City; the CVRep production of Guys and Dolls will show you just how tough you had to be to get by as a night club dancer, illegal craps game organizer, high roller or missionary. This will be a version of this oddball romantic comedy like you have never seen it before.

- REPORT ON DESERT ENSEMBLE THEATRE (2300 E. Baristo Rd., P.S. @ the P.S. Cultural Center)

03-06 through 03-15; “Meteor Shower” by Steve Martin

Corky and Norm are excited to host Gerald and Laura at their home in the valley outside Los Angeles to watch a once-in-a-lifetime meteor shower. But as the stars come out and the conversation gets rolling, it becomes clear that Gerald and Laura might not be all that they appear to be. Over the course of a crazy, starlit dinner party, the wildly unexpected occurs. This production is directed by Keith Hoffman and stars four Desert Star Award winners and nominees: Skylar Gaines, Theresa Jewett, Lizzie Sosa and David Youse.

Continuing thru 03-08; “The Graduate” 03-13 through 04-04; “The Cher Show” With three actresses portraying the life and career of the Grammy and Oscar winning icon at different points in her life, the theater says the show about the “Goddess of Pop” will turn back time. Based on the 1963 coming-of-age classic and scripted by Terry Johnson, The Graduate follows Benjamin Braddock, a twenty-one-year-old recent college graduate facing high expectations from his parents and uncertainty about his future. Upon returning home, Ben is seduced by Mrs. Robinson—the wife of his father’s business partner—beginning a secret affair that unravels when he falls for her daughter, Elaine. DTW’s production is presented in the round in their intimate Blackbox Theater. - (contact info: www.dtworks.org.) - ---

-REPORT ON DESERT THEATRICALS (Rancho Mirage Amphitheatre @ 71560 San Jacinto Dr., R. M., CA. 92270) 03-13 through 03-15; “Chicago” The 2026 Broadway season of Desert Theatricals begins in March and they promise to razzle dazzle you with “Chicago.” It’s the tale of Roxie Hart who murders her cheating lover and convinces her husband, Amos, to take the rap. When Amos turns on her, Roxie is sent to Death Row where she and another “Merry Murderess,” Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines. With great music by Kander and Ebb – and a Broadway version staged by the immortal Bob Fosse – “Chicago” was ahead of its time when it premiered in 1975. But it has stood the test of time as a hard-edged look at the “American Dream” – fame, fortune and acquittal. - (contact info: www.desert-theatricals.com.)

Continuing through 03-08; “Destroying David” In this West Coast premiere by Jason Odell Williams, an art restorer/docent gives the audience a private after-hours tour of Michelangelo’s David at Florence’s Galleria dell’Accademia. Starring Aleisha Force (whom you have seen on series including “This Is Us,” “For All Mankind,” and “Prison Break”) and directed by Craig Wells, “Destroying David” is also a journey through the inner world of someone struggling with loss, love, and what it means to preserve what we hold dear. “Destroying David” runs 75 minutes with no intermission - (contact info: www.dezartperforms.org ).

The Tony Award winning musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber is based on the classic Hollywood noir film starring Gloria Swanson and William Holden.
